Description

Health Champion Training and RSPH Assessment

NHS England Wessex and Health Education England Wessex are supporting the funding of a series of half-day workshops in September 2017 for aspiring Health Champions from pharmacies in the Wessex area. Additional places may be available for a second Health Champion candidate from a pharmacy subject to space being available.

All Healthy Living Pharmacies (HLPs) must have at least one full-time equivalent (35 hours) Health Champion who has passed the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) - Level 2 award in Understanding Health Improvement. The individual taking the award is normally a healthcare assistant or another member of the team working most of their day interacting with people coming into the pharmacy. The training and assessment is being provided by Pharmacy Complete, specialists in Healthy Living Pharmacy.

At the half-day workshop, the context for HLP, the Health Champion role, revision of the course syllabus and the formal assessment will be covered. NHS Wessex and HEE Wessex are funding the event management, costs, and the distance-learning course. The RSPH assessment (£20 + VAT + processing fee) is to be funded by the pharmacy contractor.

Please note: by registering for a workshop, you are agreeing to fund the assessment and this will taken at the time of booking; please see the terms and conditions below.

It is very important that all delegates complete the distance-learning workbook (up to 8 hours of self-directed learning) before they attend so that they are well prepared to take the assessment when they attend. We will touhc on the syllabus as a revision session at the event but this is not enough to pass the assessment. We recommend that you enrol as soon as possible to ensure that the candidate receives their workbook in plenty of time before coming to the workshop. Places are limited and so secure a place now.

Timing: there are now just 2 available dates (4 sessions) remaining to book up to Sept 16, this is because the course workbook needs to be sent out and completed before attending. Your pharmacy team member only needs to attend one half day workshop, either morning or afternoon. Events open for registration at either 9:00 or 13:30, finishing at either 12:30 or 17:00.

26 September - Chilworth Manor, Chilworth, Souhtampton, Hampshire SO16 7PT

28 September - Merley House, Merley House Lane, Wimborne Minster, Dorset BH21 3AA

Catering: only tea and coffee will be available, there will be no food available.

Completing the online form: please complete candidate details when registering

When a candidate passes their assessment they will receive a certificate and Health Champion badge; these are usually available 2-3 weeks after the assessment date following RSPH marking.

Terms and Conditions

  • Once a workbook has been sent to the candidate, no refund can be applied
  • A course is transferable to a colleague in the same pharmacy provided the candidate has not undertaken their assessment and the new candidate has enough time to undertake the learning before the assessment date
  • If a candidate is unable to attend the assessment for unforeseen circumstances, then the assessment may be undertaken in the pharmacy under the invigilation of a registered healthcare professional under strict exam conditions. An additional fee of £15 + VAT will apply to cover the additional post and packaging, payable by the contractor
  • If a candidate does not achieve the pass mark of 20/30 then they may retake in the pharmacy under the invigilation of a registered healthcare professional under strict exam conditions. An additional fee of £35 + VAT will apply to cover the retake assessment fee, administration, post and packaging
  • A candidate must bring photo ID to the assessment to qualify; this is an OFQUAL requirement
  • If more than one person per pharmacy needs to take the qualification to achieve full-time cover then the contractor can purchase an additional course and assessment for £75 + VAT. In this instance, the additional person can attend the workshop of their choice provided there are spaces available. Please contact Pharmacy Complete separately for further information on how to enrol an additional person.
